Mike Donald was a professional entertainer and songwriter who was well known for his songs that have a north country flavour, his most well known being the much loved “Settle to Carlisle” railway song. He appeared regularly on radio and T.V. and was renowned for his work in schools. Mike took his one man show to hotels, theatres and village halls, both in the U.K. and abroad. He made several albums and records including “Folktrain”, “Yorkshire Songs of the Broad Acres”, “North by North East”, “A Bug’s Eye View” and “Railriders”.
He contributed to many folk song publications, wrote a children’s story book “The Heather Bug Adventures” and had several songbooks published including – “Travelling the Northern Road”, “North by North East” and “River, Moor and Coast”.
Having been born in Scunthorpe and spending his childhood in Hull, Mike set up home in Skipton, North Yorkshire – “Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales”. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 41.
